As a whole, I believe the content of my presentation was up to par, more over, it was my delivery that needed to be worked upon. I was able to hit upon all of the required topics and even bring in examples from outside sources that we had discussed during class, such as “The Devil as a Woman” to exemplify how Norma was portrayed through her actions and capture of Joe Gillis and support the analysis I’d recently stated. As the climax of the film, I believe I was able to tie it back to the film as a whole with the concept of the story as a whole being a flashback from the eyes of Mr. Gillis, as well as finding symbolic references within the cinematography and musical score. There were also times where I brought in elements of how this film portrayed Hollywood at the time and how Norma was a symbol to the crash of stardom when a trend moves on, such as the silent films, or how her acting helps display her previous life.
My content, I believe, brought in the elements that were required of us and that I was up to par with the presentation content wise. What I feel needs improvement… a lot of improvement… is my delivery. Only so much can be blamed on nerves, and even though I had practiced, I don’t feel that it came out sounding professional and insightful. There were many pauses when I had to stop and compose myself before moving on, and I feel that I need to help develop a confidence in my voice so that my information sounds more credible and my point gets across effectively. Out of all of the components that makes up a presentation, I’d have to say delivery is my main point of improvement.
